Longshots 23/12/23

3 National Hunt meetings tomorrow close off the action before a 2 day pre-Christmas break. Haydock and Ascot is where the best action is tomorrow including the Grade 1 Long Walk Hurdle over 3 miles. That looks a tricky race but I hope a blog favourite Crambo runs well. It would be good to see one of the old boys like Paisley Park or Champ go close though. Hopefully in the last race at Ascot, we can get in Altobelli tipped at 12/1, however it looks a hot enough race.

1:30 Haydock - 3m1f - Tommy Whittle Handicap Chase

Famous Bridge looks the rightful favourite and should have a bit in hand off 135 still. Currently trading at 5/2f, he was probably a bit of value at 5/1 earlier in the week. Credo and Eleanor Bob were behind Famous Bridge last time out at Haydock and both will run well.

I'll give a chance to the likely front runner, coming into the race after a first time wind operation and DR KANANGA is the each way selection here. He hasn't got his head Infront since a fruitful 21/22 campaign where he hit a career high mark of 140 after 2 facile victories in handicaps. Lowered down to a mark off 128, he can run his race from the front off that mark and may be hard to catch if he gets an easy lead.

It's going to be doubly heavy at Haydock tomorrow after a week of storms in the area, and some of these may cry off early enough. This lad won't as he loves soft ground and should outrun his odds of 16/1, hopefully there won't be anymore then 2 non runners tomorrow and we get paid the first 3 as he has a good chance of hitting the frame as long as his jockey doesn't go too hard from the front.

Bets:

Dr Kananga - 1pt ew @ 16/1 (Bet365)

3:15 Haydock - 3m1f - Merry Christmas Handicap Hurdle

There is an ample opportunity for BUSHYPARK to get his head Infront tomorrow. From a career high mark of 137, he now runs over 115 in ideal conditions. Most of the field bar the current 3 time winner Our Sam are 10 years old plus so there are plenty of question marks including my selection, but Bushypark has a little back of backclass including a dominant handicap win off 120 over the same course back in 2021.

He loves soft conditions and has only been in training for 3 years or so, so may have some capacity left to win a handicap with his ideal conditions. He rates the bet at 14/1 each way with Bet365 paying 3 places

Bets:

Bushypark - 0.75pts ew @ 14/1 (Bet365)
